I am looking forward to working with you and your student this semester. I feel that it will be a semester filled with many new learning, fun and personal experiences for all of us. There are many things that I hope to incorporate into class this semester, including but not limited to the use of different technology activities/tools and learning modalities that will enable your student to be as successful as he/she chooses. However, this will take a united and conscious effort from primarily your student, then you and me. It is my desire to show all students that they have the ability to achieve and that they can make great achievements by setting goals, striving to achieve and surpass these goals, challenging themselves, and taking responsibility. I will work with your student in class at Ninety Six High School; you will need to work with your student at home. Your involvement is vital to your child’s education.
I expect great things from my students. I set the bar high and I make class challenging. The ultimate goal in my classroom is to teach my students how to become independent learners, thinkers and workers. What success they experience I want them to earn on their own. These high expectations begin with expecting the basics. I expect my students to be prepared, to not disrupt class by talking out, to not do outside work such as homework, to be on time and to make up missed work.
I am sure that both you and your student have seen the television show Survivor and heard of the song by the same name. Both have basic concepts that I feel will encourage your student to be successful. These include the following:
- SURVIVORS do not GIVE UP.
- SURVIVORS do not STOP. They work HARDER.
- SURVIVORS make the necessary CHANGES to successfully ADAPT to and OVERCOME their WEAKNESSES and OBSTACLES.
- SURVIVORS take advantage of their STRENGTHS.
- SURVIVORS are DETERMINED, DEDICATED, and MAKE the BEST of ALL SITUATIONS.
- SURVIVORS are SUCCESSFUL.
- SURVIVORS have GOOD ATTITUDES. In life, it is your ATTITUDE that determines your ALTITUDE.
Together, we can help them be successful by showing them the benefits of hard work, following directions, and setting goals.
