Minutes to Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees

Greenwood County, Ninety Six, South Carolina

July 10, 2007

PRESENT:                 Mr. Sam Corley

                                    Dr. Michael Bryant

                                    Dr. William Long                                             

                                    Mr. Ray Jackson

                                    Mr. Dayne Pruitt

 

NOTICE TO MEDIA:  The Ninety Six Star, The Index Journal, WCRS Radio, Greenwood Today, and Moore Media were notified of the time, date, place and agenda of the meeting.

 

CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Long followed by Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

AFFIRMATION OF AGENDA:  Dr. Bryant requested an executive session for personnel, contractual, and legal matters.  A motion was made by Mr. Sam Corley, seconded by Mr. Ray Jackson, to add an executive.  All were in favor.

 

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING(S):  A motion was made by Dr. Michael Bryant, seconded by Mr. Sam Corley, to approve the minutes of May 22, 2007.  All were in favor.

A motion was made by Mr. Ray Jackson, seconded by Mr. Sam Corley, to approve the minutes of June 12, 2007.  All were in favor.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:

Oath of Office:  The Oath of Office for Board of Trustee was administered to Mr. Dayne Pruitt by Dr. Dan Powell.

 

Training:  A board duties and responsibilities workshop will be held on July 23rd at 7:00 pm.  The meeting will be conducted by the South Carolina School Boards Association.

 

FINANCIAL – MR. RODNEY SMITH:  No report for June is available due to closing out of books for the previous year. The auditors will return in September to complete the process.

 

Mr. Smith distributed information on 8% funds and a pay back schedule.

 

The district has had several trees around the district office and high school to fall.  It is suggested that the district have all of the pine trees and some hard woods removed.  The district would be able to see a monetary benefit for having the trees taken down.

Dr. Michael Bryant – I so move to give district administration authority to accept bids and have timber cut as specified.  Motion was seconded by Mr. Ray Jackson.  All were in favor.

 

CURRICULUM – MRS. RHONDA MCDOWELL:  No report.

 

PERSONNEL – MRS. RHONDA MCDOWELL:  Personnel recommendations were given to board members for their consideration.

 

A motion was made by Mr. Sam Corley, seconded by Mr. Dayne Pruitt, to accept the personnel recommendations as presented.  All were in favor.

 

The district will offer employment to:

Jillian Smith – Early Childhood teacher – Ninety Six Primary School

 

The district will accept the resignation of:

Beverly McAlister – Guidance Counselor – Ninety Six Primary School

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:  A motion was made by Dr. Michael Bryant, seconded by Mr. Ray Jackson, to enter into executive session for personnel, contractual, and legal matters.  All were in

favor.

 

GENERAL SESSION:  It was the consensus of all board members to enter into general session.

 

There being no further business for discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
