About Our Town
Ninety Six
is a mostly rural community located in Greenwood County. It is in the
Northwest portion of South Carolina, bordered by Laurens, Newberry,
Saluda, and McCormick counties. Ninety Six is small (population 1.917
according to 2003 census) and has only four schools: Ninety Six Primary,
Ninety Six Elementary, Edgewood Middle School, and Ninety Six High
School. The town is home to a National Historic Site: Star Fort
which was the site of two battles during the Revolutionary War. Several
major businesses make their homes in our county. Among them are Fuji
Film, Solutia, and Capsugel.
About Our School
Ninety Six
Primary School currently has an enrollment of 425 students grades K-4
through Second grade. We offer an extended day four-year-old program
that serves students with special needs, as well as a Student Support
Team (SST) that meets weekly to make decisions concerning the academic
needs of many of our students. Our CATS mentoring program gives
additional support to students and currently has 48 mentors who meet up
to twice per week with chosen students to help 'tutor' and build
students self-esteem and academics. Every student, grade K-5 through
Second Grade participate in hands-on lessons in our Science Lab each
week, and our fine arts program (both Music and Art) provides creative
outlet for students once per week, each meeting for 45 minutes. We are
implementing an extended Physical Education (P.E.) program to fulfill
the current PE Act from our State, which means students will have plenty
of opportunities to exercise their BODIES as well as their minds! Our
school is currently operating under an EXEMPLARY rating from the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and we are very
proud to say that this year, EVERY classroom in our school will be using
a Promethean Board that will enhance student lessons through the use of
this new technology.
