CHECKLIST

  1. SYSTEM OPERATION SKILLS
  2. __________ 1. Turn on the computer and printer

    __________ 2. Using the Start Menu, click on a Word Processing program or

    application (Microsoft Word, Notepad, etc).

    __________ 3. Type at least two paragraphs of text on the topic of your choice

    into a new document. Name the document "My Demo" (do not use

    quotation marks) and save it to a floppy diskette.

    __________ 4. Print the document using the connected printer.

    __________ 5. Close the document.

    __________ 6. Minimize the word processing program being used.

    __________ 7. Create a new folder on the desktop and name it "Computer Proficiency".

    __________ 8. Copy your document "My Demo" from floppy diskette into the

    folder you created.

    __________ 9. Using the right mouse button, rename the document on the floppy

    diskette from "My Demo" to "Sample One".

    __________10. Click on the Internet Browser icon on the desktop to go to the

    Browser homepage.

    __________11. Highlight and copy text from a webpage.

    __________12. Open the file on the floppy diskette named "Sample One".

    __________13. Paste the text into the "Sample One" document.

    __________14. Save the document and close the word processing program.

    __________15. Close the Internet Browser program.

    __________16. Remove the floppy diskette.

    __________17. Insert a CD-ROM into the computer. (If it automatically starts a

    program, close it).

    __________18. Remove the CD-ROM from the computer.

    __________19. Shut down the computer.

  4. __________ 1. Set up the computer, connecting the monitor, mouse, keyboard and

    printer.

    __________ 2. Connect the electrical cords into a surge protector and into an outlet.

    __________ 3. Power on the computer, monitor and printer.

    __________ 4. Explain the proper care of floppy diskettes and CD-ROMs.

    __________ 5. Explain (or demonstrate, if needed) the proper method of cleaning

    computer components.

    __________ 6. Make a back-up copy of a document on the hard drive.

    __________ 3. Type in a specific URL on the address line to go to a news or

    educational site.

    __________ 4. Add this URL to the favorites/bookmarks list.

    __________ 5. Access a "search engine" of your choice either by typing in the URL

    or clicking on the hyperlinks off of the District "Other Links" site.

    __________ 6. Using the Search Engine, find sites related to a topic from a unit of

    study in your school.

    __________ 7. Explain security procedures for using the Internet in a school setting

    including passwords, file servers, access rights, etc.

    __________ 8. Read the District’s Acceptable Use Policy.

    __________ 2. Compose a new message and send it to a designated person. Send a

    copy of the message to another designated person.

    __________ 6. Forward the message to a designated person.

    __________ 7. Save the message to a floppy diskette.

    __________ 8. Using the address book, enter five different contacts with name and

    email address.

    __________ 5. Produce four or five slides of different designs. (Add text information

    applicable to a topic or unit of study in your school).

    __________ 6. Insert clip art into one of the slides.

    __________ 7. Format the text to a larger size on one slide.

    __________ 8. Use a bulleted list on one slide.

    __________ 9. Use the slide sorter view to arrange slides.

    __________10. Run a presentation for an audience using the slide show view.

    __________11. Save the presentation to a floppy disk.

     

  13. INSTRUCTIONAL APPLICATIONS

The tasks required for demonstration of the essential knowledge and skills for this area must be observed over a period to time. These skills will be documented in lesson plans and demonstrated during instructional lessons.
