Greenwood School District 52 will operate on an eLearning Day schedule on Tuesday, January 27th, due to icy conditions on secondary roads and backroads, which may make travel unsafe for school buses and drivers, as well as frigid temperatures expected across the area.
District leaders have been closely monitoring weather forecasts and roadway conditions and determined that operating on a normal schedule could pose safety concerns for students and staff, particularly during morning transportation routes.
“Our number one priority is to keep our students and employees safe,” said Superintendent Dr. Beth Taylor. “With icy roadways and dangerously cold temperatures anticipated, an eLearning Day will allow learning to continue while ensuring everyone can remain off the roads.”
All school buildings will be closed to students, and students should follow the district’s established eLearning procedures. E-Learning assignments will be posted to Google Classroom or Class Dojo for all students in grades K-12. Completion of the work will count as attendance for the day. Students should complete all the assigned work from their teacher. Teachers will be available via email/Dojo during the day. Additional guidance regarding instruction and attendance will be shared directly with families and staff.
High school students who take classes at Piedmont Technical College or Lander University should continue to follow the instructions from those schools. Students enrolled in classes at G. Frank Russell Technology Center should contact their teachers to obtain instructions for Monday’s classes. Families are encouraged to check district communication channels for additional guidance and updates.
Greenwood School District 52 will continue to monitor weather conditions and share any further announcements through the district website, social media platforms, and parent notification systems.
